Virtually good navigators

The Scouts conducted a virtual parachute drop (hike), finding their location and route planning from the comfort of the hall – just as well, considering the rain and wind outside. When points from the exercise and inspection were considered, Otters slipped into the lead in the Patrol competition (scores on the Scouts page).

The PACE of life increases

18 Scouts and three leaders from 11th Hitchin enjoyed the Hertfordshire PACE activity camp from Friday to Monday. Scouts took part in a wide range of different activities, from climbing, archery, aerial runways and pillow fights on “greasy” poles to carving, woggle-making and backwoods cooking.

Squirrel alert

The Scouts discussed camp safety, including food storage and hygiene, as well as helping to sort the kit for this weekend’s Hertfordshire PACE camp. The answers to most of the questions about “What do we have to think about when storing this food on camp?” seemed to be “Squirrels!” We’ll be ready for the critters!

Making a pitch

With summer camping coming up, the Scouts honed their pitching skills, turned the church lawns into a camp site, and checked the condition of their equipment all in one go, by putting up some of the tents that we will be using at PACE.

Otters triumph

The Otters won the Scout Patrol competition for the term by the narrowest of margins over the Falcons. Marks for inspection and so on were close, but the Otters tipped the balance with a good win in the quiz (also part of the Creative Challenge), whilst the Falcons had the best photography poster and the Bulldogs the best model camp site. Check the Scout Troop page for the final scores.
