Who are the leaders?

Our leadership team is entirely made up of volunteers who enjoy running cub meetings! All adult leaders have training and a CRB check, and there is always at least one adult who is first aid qualified.

If you would like the opportunity to do something you’d never thought of doing, while having lots of fun and giving back to the community at the same time, please get in touch – we can always do with more leaders!

Each section has its own leader team and runs its own program but there are close links between the sections. The Group Scout Leader, Tina, provides support for all the sections.

Robin (Akela) is our Cub Scout Leader working together as a team with Rik (Baloo), Ian (Chil), Hayley (Bagheera) and Charlie. We also have fantastic help from Barnie and Oliver, our Young Leader (14-18 yrs) who help us run the Cub Pack.

Here is a little bit of information about each of us;

Robin/Akela

I started Scouting as a Wolf Cub (as we were then) with the 3rd West Geelong troop in Australia and progressed through Scouts, Senior Scouts and Rangers. After a hiatus of several years (marriage, children and traveling) I started again as a Scout Leader for 1st Harlech in North Wales and finally as an ACSL for 11th Hitchin where I have been now for over 20 years.

I do the ‘outdoor things’ such as the map reading, first aid, knots, shooting and camping but not the ‘indoor things’ (crafts, meetings or money).  Outside of scouting (leaders have a life too!), I am a consulting engineer for plastics processing dealing with energy and environmental issues. Although based in Hitchin, I work all over the world but manage to be in Hitchin most Thursdays to work with the Cub Scouts.

Rik/Baloo

I have been an 11th Cub Leader since 2012, and love showing the Cubs science experiments! I am a science teacher during the day, and watching Cubs faces when they explode rockets at great heights, and set light to things (safely of course!) is very rewarding.

Hayley/Bagheera

I am an Assistant Cub Leader and have been with this group since 2010. I attend and support at weekly meetings, and help out at the numerous camps we take the Cubs to.

Ian/Chil

I have been with the 11th Hitchin since 1999, and was previously at another group in Stevenage. I have been awarded a 15 year service badge for the length of time I have been volunteering in scouting.
